Five Simple ways that you can help us to Bridge Diversity...
5. Embrace a positive connotation of DIVERSITY, defined as the UNIQUE
STRENGTHS & DIFFERENCES of the INDIVIDUAL HUMAN CONDITION.
4. Follow the PLATINUM RULE: Treat others as they wish to be treated, not how you wish to be treated.
3.
Avoid making BLANKET STATEMENTS about an entire group of people or
buying into STEREOTYPES that falsely represent a particular culture.
2.
Seize every moment to EDUCATE yourself and those around you about the
importance of understanding, valuing, and celebrating DIVERSITY in our
community.
1. Share the vision of “Bridging Diversity Through
the Arts” with your friends, family members, and co-workers while
striving to be a CHANGE AGENT; An individual that is willing to take
action when they encounter inappropriate words or behaviors.
Become a Change Agent...
According to the Diversity Awareness Spectrum, found in the Diversity Awareness Profile by Karen Stinson, there are five (5) categories that can assist us in understanding how free of bias, prejudice, and discrimination our behavior is:
Naive Offender
Acts with no knowledge or awareness of biases and prejudices and their negative impact.
Perpetuator
Aware of biases and prejudices, but continues negative behaviors and reinforces stereotypes.
Avoider
Tolerates unjust behaviors from others and "plays it safe."
***Change Agent***
Acts as a role model, takes action when appropriate, and addresses negative and/or hurtful behaviors when necessary.
Fighter
Always on the lookout for prejudice and sees it everywhere. Will rarely back down from an opportunity to educate others and address negative behavior.
